Who is this Moose 'person' anyway ?
I'm a geek in their mid forties, struggling with imposter syndrome about being a grown up....
Why this website ?
Few lies carry the inventor's mark, and the most prostitute enemy to truth, may spread a thousand without being known for the author: besides, as the vilest writer has his readers, so the greatest liar has his believers: and it often happens, that if a lie be believed only for an hour, it has done its work, and there is no farther occasion for it. Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it; so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale has had its effect: like a man, who has thought of a good repartee, when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who has found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.
TLDR; Social media in the power of facebook/twitter is on balance a bad thing for humanity. Not only for the obvious hate content/disinformation, but the media literacy of the population is dropping significantly. Morally I can no longer support its use, so moving to independent services that I pay for, and that includes standards based interoperability.
The other reason for creating this is ritual and intentionality. Part of a trip used to be the ritual of taking the memory card out of the camera, transferring to your computer, transferring the tracklog from the GPS, combining the two, adding to your iPhoto library, and then uploading to Flickr. This process, though annoying at the time, forced a review of what what you did, you were critical about the photos. Now i'm taking more and better photos than before that just sit on my camera, along with duff ones. By having this website i'm hoping to force some ritual and intentionality back into my life, alongside having a creative outlet.
